April 22nd 2020-Earth Day π
My husband dared me to send this ugly pic of me with our giant zucchini to Joe Snedeker, the weatherman at WNEP news. I wish I still had the video from this day!
Joe was well, very Joe about it! π³π€£

βI'm a passionate person who really gets hooked on research of all kinds of topics, like victory gardens! I'm also a mother and wife set out to teach my kids that just one person's voice can make a major impact if you approach your goals with integrity.
I knew that the food system was in pretty bad shape to begin with. Then when covid19 happened my foresight told me that the food industry was about to get a really hard hit!
People would get sick, and workers wouldn't be allowed near the food to process it. I knew it would slow down production, and the same issues would hit the truckers that deliver the food.
I also knew people were going to need to be cheered on and encouraged, in order to make gardens "cool" again for a whole new generation of gardeners....is "cool" still even a "cool" word? Someone needs to tell me the new "hip" word for cool.....
Because food, and water are the most basic human needs. I strive to keep life simple. My husband and I have had our own gardens for 15 years. Before that, my mother would teach me in her garden.
When I was a little girl in flatbush Brooklyn, there was a hole in our backyard's fence, it was attached to a local community garden.
As a child it was like entering my own secret garden, a magical world where time slowed down, and I caught fairies (aka lightning bugs) in jars. I cherish the time that I spent there, it was always calming for me. There is just something to say about being surrounded by nature in the middle of a big city. I wonder if it still exists, I would love to go visit it again.
We live in Pennsylvania now, but we dream to move south and have a homestead. We have around 100 feet dug now, but intend to go much bigger!
I grow anything and everything. I love learning about plants, and all of their beautiful differences. I have veggies, a fruit tree, & lots of houseplants. I'm by far not an expert gardener at all, but the challenge is what I love the most. My mother on the other hand has plants still alive since the 70s, that's before I was born!
My biggest challenge is getting people to understand that the political aspects of the food access issues are so important and necessary. If you don't know which people are voting for good changes in the food system, and environment, then you can't know if you're really making the right vote when it comes to food quality, and access to food in general. Our Victory Garden Revival Facebook group members are great and have civil discussions about the big issues that affect us all.
Seeing people get excited & seeing them get involved is my greatest reward. I love connecting with people who understand why you're doing what you're doing. I've met so many amazing people from all of the many other victory gardens groups! We want to go worldwide with this!
Currently all of my efforts are online, and done in my own backyard. I started a challenge in our group to get people to design and make seed share boxes for their communities. To go on a mission to call parks, libraries, and businesses to convice someone to let their seed share box to be installed. Can't wait to see how many succeed so we can be inspired by their stories in the group.
I've also partnered with John Murphy from make100healthy.com, who has a dream for 1 million gardens in the USA 5 years! We are already planning to have a victory gardens summit for all the victory gardens group owners to network even more! It's all very exciting stuff!β

I am so thankful to the many friends I have made along the way who have helped me to amplify my voice for this cause.
That includes my friends on the clapper app especially Radio show host KLAB_PLUPPETS in Los Vegas NV.
We often go LIVE to millions of people to talk about this very important cause.
We are planning a future victory gardens revival summit.
